Profile
Equal Justice for All Alaskans
Access to the legal system should not be determined by your ability to pay. Alaska Legal Services Corporation (ALSC) is a private, non-profit law firm dedicated to providing high-quality civil legal assistance to low-income Alaskans. Founded in 1967, ALSC has a long history of bridging the gap between those who need legal help and those who can afford it. The Anchorage office serves as a hub for these critical services, offering hope and stability to individuals and families facing life-altering legal challenges. Whether it is preventing homelessness, ensuring safety from domestic violence, or securing access to healthcare, the attorneys and staff at ALSC are committed to the principle that justice is for everyone.
Vital Civil Legal Aid
ALSC focuses on civil matters that affect the fundamental needs of its clients. They do not handle criminal cases, but their work in civil court is often just as critical for the safety and well-being of the community. Their services are prioritized to help those who are most vulnerable, including seniors, veterans, and victims of abuse.
- Housing Stability: Representation in eviction cases, foreclosure defense, and disputes over unsafe living conditions to keep Alaskans in their homes.
- Family Law: Assisting victims of domestic violence with protective orders, divorce, and custody matters to ensure family safety.
- Public Benefits: helping individuals access and maintain essential benefits like SNAP, Medicaid, and Social Security disability.
- Senior Services: Protecting the rights of the elderly against financial exploitation, abuse, and neglect.
Community-Based Advocacy
Beyond individual representation, ALSC operates several projects designed to reach specific populations. The Landlord and Tenant Legal Helpline provides free advice to both tenants and landlords, helping to resolve housing disputes before they reach the court. The firm also relies on a network of pro bono attorneys to expand its reach. ALSC’s work is deeply rooted in the community, with a mission to empower Alaskans to understand their rights and navigate the complex legal system. If you are facing a civil legal issue and cannot afford an attorney, ALSC may be able to help.
We believe that laws should protect everyone, not just the wealthy. Our mission is to protect the safety, health, and family stability of Alaskans through legal advocacy.
Located in downtown Anchorage, the office is accessible to those in need. Applications for services are required and can be done over the phone or online. ALSC stands as a pillar of fairness in the Last Frontier. 🏔️
