Profile
Equal Access to Justice for All
The Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) is a non-profit law firm with a mission to provide free civil legal services to low-income Georgians and seniors. The Augusta regional office serves Richmond County and the surrounding rural areas, ensuring that the legal system is accessible to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. GLSP does not handle criminal cases; instead, they focus exclusively on civil matters that affect the basic needs of life, such as housing, healthcare, and family safety. If you are struggling with a legal issue and cannot afford to hire an attorney, GLSP may be able to help.
Housing and Consumer Rights
One of the primary goals of GLSP is to prevent homelessness and protect consumer rights. The attorneys and paralegals in the Augusta office assist with:
- Eviction Prevention: Defending tenants against wrongful eviction and ensuring safe housing conditions.
- Foreclosure: Helping homeowners understand their options to save their homes.
- Public Housing: assisting with disputes involving housing authorities and Section 8.
- Consumer Protection: Fighting predatory lending, garnishments, and debt collection harassment.
Family Law and Domestic Violence
GLSP prioritizes the safety of families. They provide critical legal support to victims of domestic violence, helping them break free from abusive situations. Services include:
- Temporary Protective Orders (TPOs): Assisting victims in securing court orders for protection.
- Divorce and Custody: Representing victims in family law matters to ensure safety and stability for children.
- Elder Rights: Protecting seniors from abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation.
