Profile
Dedicated Federal Criminal Defense
The Federal Public Defender for the District of Hawaii is a government law office committed to ensuring that the right to counsel is a reality for everyone, regardless of their financial means. Established under the Criminal Justice Act, this office provides high-quality legal representation to individuals charged with federal crimes who cannot afford to hire a private attorney. The team consists of experienced trial lawyers, investigators, and paralegals who specialize exclusively in federal criminal defense. Unlike private firms that handle a variety of cases, the Federal Public Defender’s office focuses solely on federal law, giving them a depth of knowledge and experience that is unmatched in the field.
Comprehensive Legal Representation
The office handles a wide range of federal cases, from initial appearance through trial and appeal. Their mission is to advocate tirelessly for their clients, ensuring that their constitutional rights are protected at every stage of the legal process.
- Criminal Defense: Representing clients accused of federal offenses, including drug trafficking, white-collar crimes, and immigration violations.
- Appellate Advocacy: Challenging convictions and sentences in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
- Habeas Corpus: Representing federal prisoners in post-conviction proceedings to correct miscarriages of justice.
Expert Court-Appointed Counsel
Clients do not ”hire” the Federal Public Defender in the traditional sense; rather, they are appointed by the court if they qualify financially. This ensures that even those with limited resources have access to some of the best legal minds in the state. The attorneys in this office are widely respected by judges and prosecutors alike for their professionalism and advocacy skills. If you or a loved one are facing federal charges and cannot afford a lawyer, the court may appoint this office to represent you, providing you with a vigorous defense against the power of the federal government.
