Profile
Connecting Lawyers with the Community
The Nashville Bar Association Pro Bono Program is a vital legal service organization based in Nashville, Tennessee. Dedicated to bridging the gap between the legal community and those in need, the program coordinates volunteer attorneys to provide free legal assistance to low-income individuals and non-profit organizations. As the charitable arm of the Nashville Bar Association, it plays a crucial role in ensuring access to justice for all residents of Davidson County, regardless of their ability to pay. The program operates not as a traditional law firm, but as a facilitator of legal aid, matching skilled lawyers with clients who face civil legal issues. By leveraging the expertise of Nashville’s legal professionals, the Pro Bono Program addresses a wide variety of needs, from family law disputes to housing instability, fostering a more equitable legal system.
Services and Clinics
The Pro Bono Program organizes several initiatives to serve the community. Key areas of focus include:
- Legal Clinics: Hosting events like the Dial-A-Lawyer program, where residents can call in for free legal advice on specific evenings.
- Family Law Services: connecting clients with volunteer Divorce Lawyers and Child Custody Lawyers for uncontested matters and advice.
- Wills and Estate Planning: assisting seniors and eligible individuals with the drafting of simple wills and advance directives.
- Housing and Consumer Law: Providing guidance on landlord-tenant issues and consumer rights through volunteer counsel.
- Non-Profit Legal Assistance: Helping other charitable organizations with their legal needs so they can focus on their missions.
A Hub for Legal Service
Located in the L&C Tower at 300 Deaderick Street, the program is situated in the center of Nashville’s legal district. It works in close partnership with the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands to identify and assist those most in need. The program’s success is built on the generosity of local attorneys who donate their time and skills. For residents seeking help, the program serves as a critical entry point to the justice system, offering resources, referrals, and direct representation in select cases.
Downtown Office Location
The program’s administrative office is housed within the Nashville Bar Association’s headquarters in the L&C Tower.
