The Chittenden County State’s Attorney’s Office is a vital government agency entrusted with the prosecution of criminal offenses on behalf of the people of Vermont. 🏛️ Located in the heart of Burlington, our office serves as the chief law enforcement entity for the county, working tirelessly to promote public safety, ensure justice for victims, and maintain the integrity of the legal system. Our dedicated team of prosecutors and support staff handles all felony and misdemeanor crimes committed by adults within our jurisdiction. We are fundamentally committed to a fair and just application of the law, balancing the need for accountability with a focus on the well-being and rehabilitation of our community. This is not a private law firm; we represent the State of Vermont in criminal court proceedings.
Prosecuting a Spectrum of Criminal Cases
Our primary responsibility is the prosecution of criminal activity, a role we take with the utmost seriousness and professionalism. We collaborate closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to investigate and build strong cases, ensuring that justice is pursued effectively. The attorneys in our office are skilled trial lawyers, handling thousands of cases each year that span the entire Vermont criminal code. ⚖️
- Violent Crime Defense Lawyers: Our office vigorously prosecutes all violent crimes, including assault, robbery, and homicide, to protect the community and hold offenders accountable for their actions.
- Drug Crime Defense Lawyers: We address the complex issue of drug-related crime, focusing on disrupting trafficking operations while also working with community partners to find solutions for those struggling with substance use disorders.
- DUI/DWI Defense Lawyers: To ensure the safety of our roadways, we prosecute cases of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a serious offense with potentially tragic consequences.
- Theft and Burglary Defense Lawyers: We handle a high volume of property crimes, such as theft and burglary, working to secure restitution for victims and deter future offenses.
A Commitment to Victims and Community Safety
A core part of our mission is to support the victims of crime. Navigating the criminal justice system can be an intimidating and emotional experience, and we are here to help. Our dedicated Victim Advocate provides crucial services to victims, ensuring their rights are protected and their voices are heard throughout the legal process. 🤝 We provide information on case status, court accompaniment, and referrals to support services. By placing victims at the center of our work, we strive to make the justice system more responsive and compassionate. Our ultimate goal is to foster a safe, healthy, and thriving community for all residents of Chittenden County.
