Profile
Legal Advocacy for Survivors of Domestic Violence
Life Span is a nationally recognized non-profit organization located in Chicago, dedicated to providing comprehensive legal services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Founded in 1978, our mission is to empower survivors to demand safety as a human right. Unlike many social service agencies, Life Span employs a full staff of experienced attorneys who provide direct legal representation in court. We combine legal advocacy with counseling and social services to offer a holistic solution that helps clients build lives free from violence and fear.
Expert Legal Representation
Our legal team fights for the safety and independence of our clients. We handle thousands of cases each year, providing high-quality representation in:
- Orders of Protection: Securing civil and criminal orders to keep abusers away.
- Family Law: Representing survivors in divorce, child custody, and support cases to ensure financial and physical security.
- Immigration: Assisting with VAWA self-petitions, U Visas, and battered spouse waivers for immigrant victims of abuse.
Culturally Competent Care
We believe that justice should be accessible to everyone, regardless of language or background. Life Span’s staff is diverse and multilingual, offering services in English, Spanish, Polish, Arabic, and other languages. We understand the unique cultural barriers that can prevent victims from seeking help, and we work tirelessly to overcome them.
A Commitment to Justice
Life Span does not charge for its services, ensuring that financial abuse does not prevent a victim from accessing the legal system. Our attorneys are experts in the field, often training other lawyers and judges on best practices. If you or a loved one needs to find a lawyer who understands the dynamics of domestic violence and will fight for your safety, contact Life Span. Order a lawyer from an organization that has been a beacon of hope for over 40 years.
