Empowering Detroit Through Legal Advocacy
Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan (NLSM) is a beacon of hope for the Metro Detroit community. Established in 1966, this non-profit organization is dedicated to providing access to justice for those who might otherwise be voiceless in the legal system. We offer a wide range of legal and supportive services aimed at promoting health, safety, and self-sufficiency for low-income individuals, seniors, and victims of abuse. 🏠 Our mission goes beyond the courtroom; we strive to educate, protect, and strengthen families through holistic advocacy and community partnerships.
Vital Community Legal Services
Located on Woodward Avenue in Detroit’s New Center area, NLSM addresses some of the most critical needs in our society. Our team of dedicated attorneys and social workers collaborates to provide comprehensive support.
- Housing Advocacy: We fight homelessness through eviction prevention, landlord-tenant dispute resolution, and first-time homebuyer education. We believe safe housing is a human right.
- Elder Law & Advocacy: Our Elder Law Center protects our seniors from abuse, exploitation, and neglect. We assist with wills, powers of attorney, and probate matters to ensure their dignity and assets are preserved.
- Victim Support: We provide specialized legal aid for survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, offering them a path to safety and independence.
Education and Prevention
Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan believes that knowledge is power. We run extensive law-related education programs in local schools and communities to teach citizens about their rights and responsibilities. 📚 By fostering legal literacy and conflict resolution skills, we aim to prevent legal issues before they arise. We are not just a law firm; we are a community resource committed to social justice and equality.
Committed to Service
As a 501(c)(3) organization, we rely on the dedication of our staff and the support of the community to serve thousands of clients each year. If you or a loved one are in need of legal assistance but cannot afford a private attorney, NLSM may be able to help. 📞 Contact us to find out if you qualify for our free services and let us advocate for your rights and your future.
