Profile
Empowering Immigrants Through Advocacy and Legal Support
Welcome to The Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc. (LALDEF), a cornerstone of the Trenton, New Jersey community since our founding in 2004. As a dedicated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, our mission is to promote and defend the rights of all immigrants, with a special focus on the Latin American community in the Mercer County area. We believe in a just and fair society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Our work is built on the core values of support, education, and justice, aiming to dismantle the systemic barriers that lead to immigrant marginalization. We are not just a legal service provider; we are a community advocate, a resource hub, and a steadfast partner for immigrants on their journey to self-sufficiency and full integration into the social fabric of our community. 🤝
Comprehensive Immigration Legal Services
Navigating the complexities of the U.S. immigration system can be a daunting and overwhelming process. LALDEF’s Immigration Legal Services program provides crucial, low-cost or free legal assistance to individuals and families facing a variety of immigration challenges. Our dedicated legal team, including our Legal Services Coordinator, offers expert guidance and representation in these critical areas.
- Immigration Lawyers: We act as a vital legal resource for the immigrant community, offering advice and direct representation on a wide range of immigration matters.
- Family Immigration Lawyers: We assist with family-based petitions, helping U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents reunite with their family members from abroad. We guide clients through the process of obtaining visas and adjusting their status.
- Deportation Defense Lawyers: We are acutely aware of the devastating impact of detention and deportation. LALDEF stands with the immigrant community, offering information and legal support in response to ICE enforcement actions and providing representation in removal proceedings.
- Citizenship Lawyers: Achieving U.S. citizenship is a momentous milestone. We support lawful permanent residents on their path to naturalization by assisting with citizenship applications (Form N-400) and offering comprehensive Citizenship Preparation classes. 🇺🇸
Education and Community Empowerment Programs
Beyond legal representation, a core part of our mission is to empower immigrants through education and access to resources. We believe that knowledge is power and that a strong community is an educated one. Our programs are designed to equip immigrants with the tools they need to succeed and advocate for themselves.
- Adult Education: We offer a robust suite of adult education classes, including English as a Second Language (ESL) and High School Equivalency preparation, to help individuals improve their skills and opportunities.
- Advocacy: LALDEF is a powerful voice for pro-immigrant policies. We advocate at local and state levels to create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
- Community Resources: We serve as a vital referral hub, connecting clients with essential services related to healthcare, education, and other critical needs. Our Community ID card program helps residents without government-issued identification access necessary services.
At LALDEF, our work is made possible by the generous support of our community and donors. We are committed to fostering inter-cultural communication and strengthening our communities by supporting the successful integration of immigrants. If you or someone you know needs assistance, or if you wish to support our mission, please contact our Trenton office. We are here to help. ❤️
