Profile
Free Civil Legal Services for the Harrisburg Community
The Central Pennsylvania Law Clinic, operating out of Widener University Commonwealth Law School, is a non-profit legal organization dedicated to providing essential, free legal services to low-income residents of the Harrisburg area. For over 25 years, the clinic has served a dual mission: to offer a powerful voice and expert advocacy for individuals who could not otherwise afford legal representation, and to provide law students with invaluable, real-world experience. Under the close supervision of experienced faculty attorneys, student lawyers represent clients in a variety of civil matters, ensuring that justice is accessible to all, not just those who can pay. ⚖️
Compassionate Divorce and Family Law Lawyers
A primary focus of the clinic is providing guidance and representation in sensitive family law cases. The student attorneys understand the emotional and financial stress these situations can cause and are trained to handle them with compassion and professionalism. Their services are designed to help clients achieve stability and protect their family’s well-being. Key areas include:
- Divorce Lawyers: Assisting clients with the legal process of divorce and separation.
- Child Custody and Support Lawyers: Advocating for fair custody arrangements and child support orders that are in the best interests of the children.
- Protection From Abuse (PFA): Representing victims of domestic violence in seeking protection orders.
- Adoption Lawyers: Guiding families through the legal steps of adoption.
Financial, Wills and Estate Planning Lawyers
The clinic also empowers clients to take control of their financial future and plan for the unexpected. They provide crucial legal assistance to help individuals find relief from debt and ensure their final wishes are legally documented.
- Bankruptcy Lawyers: Helping eligible clients file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy to obtain a fresh financial start.
- Debt Relief Lawyers: Defending clients against debt collection actions.
- Wills Lawyers: Drafting simple wills to ensure a client’s assets are distributed according to their wishes.
- Power of Attorney Lawyers: Preparing power of attorney documents to appoint a trusted agent for financial and healthcare decisions.
By providing these critical services, the Central Pennsylvania Law Clinic not only secures justice for its clients but also trains the next generation of public interest attorneys. 🎓
