A Voice for Students and Educators
Cedar Law PLLC is a boutique law firm in Seattle dedicated exclusively to the field of education law and civil rights. Founded in 2015 by Lara Hruska, a former social worker and teacher, the firm takes a holistic approach to resolving legal disputes in schools. We understand that education cases are not just about statutes and regulations; they are about a child’s future and an educator’s livelihood. Our team represents students, families, teachers, and administrators in a wide variety of matters, from special education advocacy to employment discrimination. We are committed to ensuring that schools are safe, inclusive, and equitable environments for everyone.
Student and Family Advocacy
Navigating the school system can be overwhelming for parents, especially when a child has special needs. We provide compassionate guidance and aggressive representation in:
- Special Education (IEP/504): We help families secure appropriate educational services and accommodations under the IDEA and Section 504.
- Student Discipline: We defend students facing suspension or expulsion, ensuring their due process rights are respected.
- Discrimination and Harassment: We fight for students who have been bullied or discriminated against based on race, gender, disability, or sexual orientation (Title IX).
Educator Representation
We also serve the dedicated professionals who work in our schools. Our attorneys represent teachers, principals, and higher education faculty in:
- Employment Disputes: We handle contract negotiations, tenure disputes, and wrongful termination claims.
- Licensure Defense: We protect the credentials of educators facing investigation by the Office of Professional Practices (OPP).
- Whistleblower Protection: We support educators who speak out against unsafe conditions or illegal practices.
At Cedar Law PLLC, we combine legal expertise with a deep understanding of the educational landscape. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and let us advocate for your educational rights. 📚
