The center is named in memory of Shani Baraka and is a cornerstone of the city's commitment to social services and community wellness.
Core Services
The center provides a comprehensive suite of services aimed at targeting the root causes of crisis rather than just the symptoms. Services are free and confidential.
- Crisis Intervention: Immediate support and safety planning for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
- Counseling: Individual and group therapy sessions to assist with grief, trauma, and mental health.
- Economic Empowerment: Job development workshops, financial literacy training, and resume assistance to help women regain independence.
Community Programs
Beyond crisis management, the facility hosts various community partners and support groups. It serves as a resource hub where women can connect with legal advocates, obtain referrals for emergency shelter, and access educational programs. The center focuses on a holistic approach to recovery and stability.
Visitation Policy
To ensure the safety and privacy of all clients, the Shani Baraka Center operates primarily by appointment. Walk-ins in immediate crisis are assisted, but calling ahead is strongly advised to ensure the appropriate staff member is available. The facility maintains a secure environment with strict access controls.
