Profile
Strengthening Communities Through Pro Bono Legal Support
The Law Project is a dedicated program of the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights, established to provide transactional legal assistance to those who are building up their communities. Founded in 1985, it serves as a bridge between the legal profession and non-profit organizations, small businesses, and first-time homebuyers who might otherwise lack access to high-quality counsel. If you are a social entrepreneur or a community organization looking to find a lawyer to help with incorporation, tax exemption, or real estate matters, The Law Project offers vital support to help you succeed.
Small Business and Non-Profit Assistance
The core mission of The Law Project is to foster economic development in underserved neighborhoods. They connect eligible clients with volunteer attorneys from Chicago’s top law firms who provide free legal services. Whether you need help drafting bylaws for a new non-profit, negotiating a commercial lease for a small business, or navigating local zoning laws, their network of pro bono attorneys is there to assist. If you need a lawyer urgently for a business transaction but cannot afford standard legal fees, The Law Project may be able to match you with the right expertise.
- Non-Profit Law: Assisting with 501(c)(3) status, governance, and compliance for community organizations.
- Entrepreneur Support: Helping low-income entrepreneurs with business formation, contracts, and licensing.
- Homeownership: providing legal counsel to first-time homebuyers to ensure fair and secure property transactions.
Advancing Economic Equity
By providing these essential legal services, The Law Project works to create a more equitable Chicago where economic opportunity is available to all. They understand that strong local businesses and stable non-profits are the backbone of healthy communities. When you apply for a lawyer through this program, you are tapping into a resource dedicated to social justice and community empowerment. Located on North LaSalle Street, The Law Project continues to be a driving force for positive change in the city.
