Ensuring Fair Tax Representation for Low-Income Granite Staters
The New Hampshire Pro Bono Taxpayer Project, also known as the Low-Income Taxpayer Project (LITC), is a vital non-profit legal service dedicated to ensuring that all residents, regardless of income, have a voice when facing the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). 🏛️ We understand that disputes with the IRS can be intimidating and overwhelming, creating immense stress for individuals and families already facing financial hardship. Our mission is to provide free, high-quality legal assistance to low-income taxpayers and those who speak English as a second language (ESL). We believe in tax justice and work tirelessly to protect our clients’ rights, resolve their tax controversies, and help them achieve financial stability. This is not a private firm; we are a grant-funded organization committed to public service.
Free Legal Help from Experienced Tax Lawyers
As a program of New Hampshire Legal Aid, our experienced attorneys and paralegals provide a wide range of free legal services to help eligible clients navigate their federal tax problems. We represent clients in disputes directly with the IRS and in federal court. Our goal is to ensure you are treated fairly by the tax system and that you only pay what you legally owe. ⚖️
- IRS Audits and Examinations: We represent and advise clients who have been selected for an IRS audit, helping them prepare and present their case effectively.
- Tax Collection Issues: If you have received a notice of intent to levy or a lien has been filed against your property, we can help. We negotiate with the IRS on collection alternatives like Offers in Compromise and Installment Agreements.
- Innocent Spouse Relief: We assist individuals who may be unfairly held responsible for tax debts incurred by their current or former spouse without their knowledge.
- Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Disputes: We help families resolve disputes and challenges related to their eligibility for the EITC and other crucial tax credits.
- Appeals and Tax Court Litigation: Our team is prepared to represent clients in administrative appeals with the IRS and, when necessary, litigate on their behalf in the U.S. Tax Court.
Who We Help
Our services are available free of charge to New Hampshire residents who meet certain income eligibility guidelines. We are a resource for those who cannot afford to hire a private tax attorney. By providing education, advocacy, and representation, we empower our clients to understand their rights and responsibilities as taxpayers. If you are facing a stressful and confusing tax problem, you do not have to handle it alone. 🤝 Contact the N H Pro Bono Tax Payer Project to see if we can help you find a resolution.
