Overview
CT State Community College: Housatonic Campus Library
The CT State Housatonic Campus Library is the primary academic resource center for students, faculty, and staff of Connecticut State Community College (CT State) in Bridgeport. Located within Lafayette Hall at the 900 Lafayette Boulevard campus, the library supports the college's curriculum with a vast collection of physical and digital materials. Formerly known as the Housatonic Community College Library, it became part of the unified CT State system in 2023. The facility provides essential services including research assistance, interlibrary loans, and access to an extensive array of online databases and academic journals.
Services and Resources
The library is designed to foster learning and collaboration. It features dedicated study rooms, computer labs with internet access, and quiet zones for individual work. Students can utilize the reserve collection for textbooks and course materials. The library also hosts the academic support center, offering tutoring and writing assistance. While primarily serving the college community, the library often acts as a government document depository and provides limited access to the general public, though borrowing privileges are typically reserved for those with a valid college ID or community user card.
Campus Security and Access
As part of a state higher education facility, security protocols are in place to ensure the safety of the campus community. Visitors to Lafayette Hall may be required to sign in at the security desk in the main lobby and present a valid government-issued photo ID. Access to the library on the upper levels is generally open during operating hours, but priority for computer use and study rooms is given to registered students. The campus maintains a tobacco-free and weapon-free environment, and all visitors are expected to adhere to the college's code of conduct.
Location and Transit
The campus is strategically located in downtown Bridgeport, making it exceptionally accessible. It sits just blocks away from the Bridgeport Transportation Center, which serves Metro-North, Amtrak, and the Greater Bridgeport Transit (GBT) bus network. The campus has its own parking garage directly attached to the building, accessible from Lafayette Boulevard. While parking is often reserved for students and staff with permits, there are provisions for visitors, and paid public parking is available in nearby surface lots and garages.
