Overview
Global Entry Enrollment Center – Chicago Field Office
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)
The Chicago Field Office Enrollment Center, located at 610 South Canal Street, is the primary downtown location for processing applications for the Global Entry program. Operated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), this facility is a critical step for international travelers wishing to join the Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP). Global Entry allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Members enter the U.S. through automatic kiosks at select airports, avoiding long customs lines.
The Interview Process
This center deals almost exclusively with in-person interviews, which are the final step in the Global Entry application process. Applicants must first apply online through the Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) website and receive “Conditional Approval” before they can schedule an interview here. During the visit, a CBP officer will:
- Verify your identification documents (Passport, Driver’s License).
- Review your application and travel history.
- Capture your biometric data (fingerprints and photograph).
- Explain the terms of the program.
The officer makes the final determination on your eligibility. This location may also service NEXUS and SENTRI applicants, though specific availability for those programs can vary.
Strict Appointment Policy
Appointment Required: This is NOT a walk-in facility. You must have a confirmed appointment scheduled through the TTP dashboard. Showing up without one will result in being turned away. Due to high demand, appointment slots at this Chicago location can be scarce, often booked months in advance. Applicants are advised to check the schedule frequently for cancellations.
Security & Prohibited Items
As a federal law enforcement facility, security is extremely strict. Visitors must clear a security checkpoint. Cell phones and cameras are generally prohibited from use inside the waiting and interview areas. Weapons of any kind are strictly forbidden. You must bring your valid passport (not expired) and proof of residency (like a driver’s license with your current address or a utility bill). If your address on your license doesn’t match your application, bring a utility bill or lease.
Parking & Transit Warning
The facility is located in a federal building near the Old Post Office. There is NO public parking on-site for applicants. Visitors driving to the center must use paid street parking (which is very limited) or nearby commercial parking garages. The entrance can be somewhat obscure; look for the federal building signage. It is accessible via the Clinton Blue Line station (about a 5-10 minute walk) and Union Station.
