The Illinois State Police (ISP) Forensic Science Center at Chicago, located at 1941 West Roosevelt Road, is one of the largest and most advanced crime laboratories in the state. This facility serves as a critical support hub for law enforcement agencies across Chicago and Cook County. The scientists and technicians here analyze physical evidence collected from crime scenes to provide objective scientific conclusions that aid in investigations and court proceedings. The laboratory specializes in various disciplines, including biology/DNA, firearms and toolmarks, latent prints, and toxicology.

Important for the Public: This is a secure laboratory facility, NOT a police station. Members of the public cannot report crimes, pay tickets, or request records at this location. Access is strictly limited to authorized law enforcement personnel and court officials. There are no public walk-in services. If you are a victim of a crime or need to submit information, you must contact your local police district or the investigating agency.
Services for Law Enforcement
For authorized agencies, the center provides:
- Evidence Intake: Secure submission of chain-of-custody items (Appointment often required for bulk submissions).
- Polygraph Examinations: Scheduled testing for criminal investigations.
- Crime Scene Services: Deployment of Crime Scene Investigators (CSIs) to major incidents (homicides, officer-involved shootings).
Location Details
The facility is situated in the Illinois Medical District, just west of the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) campus. The building is highly secure with perimeter fencing and guarded entry points. It is easily accessible for official vehicles via Roosevelt Road and is located near the Damen Pink Line station.
