Overview
Concord Housing + Redevelopment (CH+R)
Affordable Housing and Community Growth
Concord Housing + Redevelopment (CH+R) is the public housing authority serving the City of Concord and the village of Penacook. Far more than just a landlord, CH+R acts as a catalyst for community revitalization and economic independence. The agency manages a diverse portfolio of housing options designed to support low-to-moderate income families, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. Their administrative offices are centrally located downtown on Green Street, near City Hall.
- Public Housing: The agency owns and manages over 260 units of public housing, including family townhomes and dedicated elderly/disabled facilities like the Crutchfield Building and John F. Kennedy Apartments.
- Housing Choice Vouchers: CH+R administers the federal Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program, providing rental subsidies that allow eligible participants to rent privately owned apartments in the community.
- Market Rate and Tax Credit: In addition to subsidized units, the agency manages market-rate rentals and Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) properties, broadening the availability of quality housing for different income levels.
- Redevelopment Initiatives: The organization actively engages in property development and renovation projects to eliminate blight and increase the stock of modern, energy-efficient housing in the region.
Tenant Services and Application
Residents and applicants can visit the Green Street office to apply for housing programs, pay rent, or meet with case managers. The agency emphasizes resident success, offering programs that promote self-sufficiency. Eligibility for most programs is based on annual gross income and family size relative to HUD’s area median income limits. Due to high demand, waitlists for vouchers and public housing units are common, and the office provides updates on list status and application procedures.
