Overview
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)
The New Hampshire Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) operates from the State Military Reservation on Minuteman Way in Concord. As a Department of Defense program, ESGR is dedicated to promoting cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers. The office serves as a neutral resource, working to develop supportive work environments for those who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. By fostering a culture of appreciation, ESGR helps ensure that military service does not conflict with civilian career progression.
USERRA Education and Mediation
A primary function of the ESGR is to educate both service members and employers about the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). This federal law protects the job rights of individuals who voluntarily or involuntarily leave employment positions to undertake military service. The Concord office provides trained ombudsmen who offer informal, neutral mediation to resolve employment conflicts related to military service. They answer questions regarding reemployment rights, discrimination, and health plan coverage, helping to prevent disputes from escalating into legal battles.
Recognition and Awards
ESGR actively recognizes supportive employers through a series of awards, starting with the Patriot Award. Service members can nominate their supervisors for this honor to thank them for their support during deployments or training. The office also manages the ”Statement of Support” program, where employers pledge to advocate for employee participation in the military. Through outreach events, briefings, and compliance assistance, the New Hampshire ESGR team strengthens the bond between the state’s business community and its military heroes.
