NHTI Campus Safety Overview
The NHTI Campus Safety Department is the primary security authority for NHTI – Concord’s Community College. Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the department is dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The office is physically located at 1 Institute Drive, on the second floor of the MacRury Hall (often associated with the Business/Campus Safety complex). While Campus Safety officers are unsworn and do not possess arrest powers, they work in close cooperation with the Concord Police Department and New Hampshire State Police to handle criminal matters and emergencies.
Emergency Response and Patrol
Campus Safety provides a continuous uniformed presence throughout the 240-acre campus. They are the first responders for medical emergencies, fire alarms, and disturbances. The campus is equipped with Code Blue emergency phones that connect directly to the Safety Department. Officers are trained to manage a wide variety of incidents, from active threats to medical crises, often coordinating with local EMS and fire services.
Student and Staff Services
Beyond emergency response, the department offers numerous non-emergency services designed to assist the campus community:
- Safety Escorts: Walking escorts are available 24/7 for anyone who feels unsafe walking alone on campus, particularly between parking lots and residence halls.
- Vehicle Assistance: Officers provide free assistance for vehicle lockouts and battery jump-starts for vehicles parked on campus property.
- Lost and Found: The department manages the central repository for lost items found on campus.
- ID and Parking: This office is the processing center for Student IDs and faculty/staff identification badges. They also enforce parking regulations and manage the issuance of parking permits.
Reporting and Compliance
The department ensures compliance with federal safety regulations, including the Clery Act. They publish the Annual Security Report, which details crime statistics and safety policies. Students and staff are encouraged to program the Campus Safety emergency line into their phones for immediate access. For situations requiring immediate police intervention, the department facilitates a rapid hand-off to sworn law enforcement.
