Overview
ReadyNH – Emergency Preparedness
ReadyNH is the official public awareness and emergency preparedness campaign for the State of New Hampshire. Managed by the NH Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM), the program is headquartered at the Incident Planning and Operations Center (IPOC) at 33 Hazen Drive in Concord. The mission of ReadyNH is to educate and empower residents to prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural disasters and other emergencies that may impact the Granite State.
Core Principles: Stay, Have, Make
The campaign focuses on three simple but vital steps for safety:
- Stay Informed: Encouraging residents to sign up for NH Alerts, the state’s official emergency notification system, and to monitor local weather and news sources.
- Have a Plan: providing resources and templates for families to create communication plans, evacuation routes, and reunification strategies before disaster strikes.
- Make a Kit: Educating the public on how to assemble a basic emergency supply kit that includes water, food, medical supplies, and other essentials to survive for at least 72 hours.
Operations and Resources
While 33 Hazen Drive serves as the administrative hub and the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC), ReadyNH is primarily an informational resource rather than a direct service provider for walk-ins. The facility is a secure government building that coordinates statewide response efforts during blizzards, floods, hurricanes, and public safety threats. Through its website and community outreach, ReadyNH provides specific guides for various demographics, including pet owners, seniors, and individuals with disabilities, ensuring that the ‘Whole Community’ is prepared.
NH Alerts and Digital Tools
ReadyNH strongly promotes the use of the Genasys Protect mobile app and the NH Alerts system to receive time-critical safety information. These tools allow the state to broadcast location-based warnings regarding severe weather, hazardous materials incidents, or police activity directly to residents’ phones. The initiative represents a proactive partnership between state government, local first responders, and the public to build a more resilient New Hampshire.
