Hudson County Sheriff’s Office
Law Enforcement and Court Services
The Hudson County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency responsible for the security of the Hudson County judiciary and the safety of county facilities. Established in 1840, this agency operates with a wide range of divisions including the Court Bureau, Detective Bureau, and Patrol Bureau. The office is tasked with maintaining order within the county courthouses, transporting prisoners, and executing civil court orders such as foreclosures, wage garnishments, and writs of execution.
- Court Security: Provides armed security and screening at the Hudson County Administration Building and other judicial complexes to ensure the safety of judges, staff, and the public.
- Civil Process: The Civil Division handles the service of legal documents, including summonses, complaints, and eviction notices, as well as conducting Sheriff’s Sales for foreclosed properties.
- Patrol and Operations: Officers patrol county parks and roads, and the division includes specialized units such as the K-9 unit, SWAT team, and a Crash Investigation Unit.
- Community Services: Offers programs like Project Medicine Drop for safe disposal of medications and Senior ID card issuance for county residents.
The headquarters on Cornelison Avenue serves as the administrative hub for these operations. Residents visiting for administrative purposes or to pay fees should be prepared for security screening. The Sheriff’s Office works in conjunction with local municipal police departments to enhance public safety throughout the county.
