Profile
Boston’s Courageous Advocates for Equality and Justice Since 1968
Welcome to Lawyers for Civil Rights (LCR), a distinguished, non-profit organization born out of the Civil Rights Movement and dedicated to fighting discrimination and fostering equity for communities of color and immigrants. ⚖️ Founded in 1968 at the request of President John F. Kennedy to mobilize the private bar for social justice, we have been a pillar of the Boston community for over 50 years. We understand that systemic barriers and discrimination create profound challenges. Our mission is to provide creative, courageous, and life-changing legal advocacy, education, and economic empowerment. In partnership with a network of pro bono law firms and community allies, we provide powerful legal support to individuals, families, and small businesses—entirely free of charge. We are more than a law firm; we are a hub for resistance and a force for change, committed to creating a society where every person is valued and protected.
A Multi-Faceted Approach to Civil Rights Law
At Lawyers for Civil Rights, we tackle injustice from every angle. Our work is organized into several key impact areas, allowing us to provide expert, specialized counsel where it is needed most. We are committed to dismantling systemic inequality and creating pathways to opportunity. 🤝
- Workers’ Rights Lawyers: We champion the rights of marginalized workers, fighting against wage theft, workplace discrimination, and harassment. We are dedicated to ensuring that all employees are treated with dignity and paid fairly for their labor.
- Immigrant Rights Lawyers: We provide a lifeline for immigrants and refugees, offering robust legal support in a wide range of matters. This includes tenacious deportation defense to keep families together and guidance on humanitarian and family-based petitions.
- Business Formation and Litigation Lawyers (BizGrow): Through our pioneering BizGrow program, we provide free legal assistance and technical support to minority, immigrant, and women entrepreneurs. We help with business formation, contracts, leases, and intellectual property, closing the wealth gap by fueling equitable economic growth.
- Police Accountability and Voting Rights: We work to end discriminatory policing and protect the fundamental right to vote. Through litigation and advocacy, we hold institutions accountable and ensure that the voices of our communities are heard.
