Profile
A Champion for Justice and Equality in Pennsylvania
Since 1974, the Women’s Law Project (WLP) has been a leading public interest legal center dedicated to defending and expanding the rights of women, girls, and LGBTQ+ people. As a state-based organization with a national impact, WLP uses a powerful combination of high-impact litigation, policy advocacy, public education, and direct legal services to challenge gender discrimination and promote equality. We believe that a society that is more just for women is more just for everyone. For decades, we have been at the forefront of the fight for gender justice, working to dismantle systemic barriers and create a future where all individuals can thrive free from discrimination and violence.
Advancing Rights through Litigation and Advocacy
Our work is centered on creating lasting, systemic change. We are not just a law firm; we are a force for social progress, tackling the most pressing issues affecting gender equality today.
- Gender Equality and Workplace Discrimination Lawyers: We challenge sex- and gender-based discrimination in employment, education, athletics, and housing, fighting for fair treatment and equal opportunities for all.
- Abortion and Reproductive Justice: WLP is a stalwart defender of reproductive freedom. We lead and participate in landmark litigation to protect and expand access to abortion and the full range of reproductive healthcare services.
- Domestic and Sexual Violence Lawyers: We work to improve the institutional response to domestic and sexual violence, advocating for stronger legal protections and holding systems accountable to better serve survivors.
- Child Custody and Family Law Support: Through our telephone counseling service, we provide invaluable information and support to individuals navigating complex family law issues, particularly those involving custody and domestic violence.
- LGBTQ+ Rights: We are committed to securing and protecting the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, recognizing that the fight for gender equality is inclusive of all gender identities and sexual orientations.
Empowering the Community through Education
A core part of our mission is to empower individuals with knowledge about their rights. We believe that an informed public is essential for creating a more just society. WLP provides a free and confidential telephone counseling service, offering legal information, referrals, and support to thousands of people each year. We also publish a wide range of educational materials and resources to help people understand and assert their legal rights, ensuring that our advocacy extends beyond the courtroom and into the community.
