Overview
Engine Company 15 and Ladder Company 2
Barry Square Fire Station
Hartford Fire Department’s Station 15, located at 8 Fairfield Avenue, is a critical public safety outpost serving the Barry Square, South End, and Behind the Rocks neighborhoods. This historic firehouse, built in 1909, is one of the few remaining stations in the city originally designed to stable horses, featuring distinct Colonial Revival architecture. Today, it houses Engine Company 15 and Ladder Company 2, staffed by highly trained career firefighters. These units provide immediate response to structural fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and motor vehicle accidents in the southern districts of Hartford.
- Emergency Response: First responders for fire suppression and life-saving medical aid.
- Community Safety: Conducts local fire prevention inspections and public education.
- Historic Site: A registered historic building serving the community for over a century.
Operational Details
Station 15 operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. While the primary function is emergency response, the station also serves as a ”Safe Place” for youth in crisis. Residents can visit the station for non-emergency inquiries such as blood pressure checks or burn permits, though staff may be absent due to calls. The station is located at the intersection of Fairfield and New Britain Avenues. Please note that for all emergencies, you must dial 9-1-1 directly rather than calling the station house.
