Overview
MDC Utility Services & Operations
The Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) facility at 60 Murphy Road serves as the central hub for Utility Services and the District’s Command Center. While the main headquarters is on Main Street, this location is the operational heart for technical services, engineering permits, and contractor coordination. The MDC is a non-profit municipal corporation charter by the state to provide water and sewer services to the Greater Hartford region.
- Utility Services: Developers, contractors, and homeowners come here (often by appointment) to file for water/sewer connection permits, obtain hydrants meters, and review construction specifications.
- Command Center: This facility houses the 24/7 emergency dispatch for water main breaks and sewer backups.
- Customer Service: While billing inquiries are increasingly handled online or by phone, this location supports the technical side of customer accounts, such as meter scheduling and service line inspections.
Facility Access
The 60 Murphy Road complex is located in the South Meadows industrial district, near Maxim Road. It is a secure facility; visitors must check in at the guard post or front desk. For safety reasons, the operational yards are restricted to authorized personnel only. Most billing payments are encouraged to be made via the online portal, phone system, or mailed checks, though the utility services counter handles fees related to permits and inspections. The center plays a critical role in the Clean Water Project, a massive infrastructure overhaul to reduce sewage overflows.
