United States District Judge Chambers
The chambers of the United States District Judge are located within the Abraham A. Ribicoff Federal Building at 450 Main Street. This office serves as the workspace and courtroom administration center for a federal judge appointed under Article III of the Constitution. The judge presides over a variety of federal cases, including civil litigation involving federal questions or diversity of citizenship, and criminal prosecutions brought by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Judicial Functions
- Case Adjudication: The judge manages a docket of civil and criminal cases, issuing rulings on motions, presiding over trials, and sentencing defendants.
- Pretrial Conferences: Chambers staff schedule and manage conferences to discuss case status, settlement possibilities, and trial preparation.
- Hearings: The court conducts evidentiary hearings and oral arguments on complex legal issues.
Security and Courtroom Etiquette
Access to the federal building is strictly controlled. Visitors must pass through airport-style security, including metal detectors and x-ray machines. Electronics Policy: Cell phones, laptops, and other electronic devices are generally prohibited for the public and must be left outside the courthouse or checked at the security desk unless specific authorization has been granted by the judge. Professional attire is expected in the courtroom.
