Connecticut State Capitol Tours Overview
The Connecticut Capitol Information and Tours service offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore the historic State Capitol and the modern Legislative Office Building (LOB). Managed by the League of Women Voters of Connecticut in partnership with the Joint Committee on Legislative Management, this office provides educational guided tours that cover the legislative process, the history of the Constitution State, and the architectural splendor of the High Victorian Gothic Capitol building.
Visit Details
- Guided Tours: Available on weekdays, these one-hour tours depart from the LOB West Entrance. Advance reservations are recommended for groups of six or more.
- Self-Guided Options: Visitors are welcome to explore the ground floors of both buildings and the Capitol’s common areas using self-guided tour booklets available at the information desks.
- Educational Focus: The program is designed to foster civic engagement and provide historical context about Connecticut’s government.
Security and Access
As a working government facility, the Capitol complex maintains strict security. 👮 Screening: All visitors must pass through metal detectors and have bags x-rayed upon entry. 🚫 Prohibited Items: Weapons of any kind, pepper spray, and knitting needles are strictly forbidden. 🅿️ Parking: Free parking is available for visitors in the garage at 300 Capitol Avenue, which offers direct access to the Legislative Office Building.
