The Latino and Puerto Rican Sub-Commission is a dedicated policy division within the Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity and Opportunity (CWCSEO). Now located at 165 Capitol Avenue in Hartford, Connecticut, this body works to eliminate disparities and improve the quality of life for the Latino and Puerto Rican populations in the state. It operates as a non-partisan arm of the Connecticut General Assembly.
Mission and Mandate
The Sub-Commission is tasked with researching, analyzing, and recommending policies that promote:
- Economic Development: Enhancing business opportunities and financial stability for Latino communities.
- Health Equity: Addressing healthcare disparities and access to services.
- Education: Promoting academic achievement and linguistic access in schools.
- Political Well-being: Encouraging civic engagement and representation.
Community Engagement
The commission serves as a bridge between the Latino community and state government. It regularly hosts public hearings, forums, and the annual Latino Policy Summit to gather input from residents and experts. 🗣️ Public Participation: Monthly meetings are often open to the public (frequently held virtually or at the Capitol complex), allowing constituents to voice concerns directly to policymakers.
