Overview
CPD Anti-Gun Enforcement Section
Specialized Investigations
- Unit: Known as the CAGE team (Chicago Anti-Gun Enforcement), focusing on illegal firearms.
- Mission: Investigates straw purchasing, illegal gun transfers, and firearms trafficking in collaboration with the ATF.
- Facility: Housed within the Homan Square complex, a specialized facility for various police units.
This section is a critical component of the Chicago Police Department’s strategy to reduce gun violence. Detectives here trace firearms recovered at crime scenes to identify and prosecute illegal sellers. They utilize data from the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) to connect weapons to criminal activity.
Restricted Facility
- No Public Access: This is a secure operational base for investigations, not a walk-in precinct for general police reports.
- Tips: To report illegal guns anonymously, citizens should call 911 or the anonymous tip line (CPD-TIP).
- Operations: Works closely with federal partners to target violent offenders and dismantle trafficking rings.
