Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs – Cook County Service Office
The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs (IDVA) maintains a Veteran Service Office within the Cook County Administration Building at 69 West Washington Street. This office is dedicated to assisting veterans, their dependents, and survivors in navigating the complex system of federal, state, and local benefits. Accredited Veteran Service Officers (VSOs) provide free professional advocacy and guidance to ensure Illinois veterans receive the compensation and services they have earned.
Services Provided
- Claims Assistance: Preparation and filing of claims for VA disability compensation and pensions.
- Education and Employment: Guidance on the G.I. Bill, Illinois Veterans Grant, and employment resources.
- State Benefits: Processing applications for the specialized license plates, property tax exemptions, and bonuses for service.
- Survivor Benefits: Assisting families with burial benefits and survivor pensions.
Visit Information
Located on the 16th floor of the Cook County Administration Building, visitors must pass through building security to access the elevators. It is highly recommended to bring key documents, such as the DD214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty), to facilitate the claims process. Appointments are encouraged to ensure a VSO is available to dedicate sufficient time to your case.
