STD Clinic Overview
The Portland Public Health Division operates this specialized STD Clinic, formerly known as the India Street Public Health Center. Now located on Forest Avenue, this facility provides confidential diagnosis, treatment, and prevention services for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The clinic focuses on harm reduction and maintaining low-barrier access to care for all community members, regardless of residency.
Medical Services and Testing
- STI Screenings: Testing is available for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, HIV, and Hepatitis C.
- HIV Prevention: The clinic offers Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) for patients at risk of HIV infection.
- Vaccinations: Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B vaccines are available.
- Visual Exams: Clinicians perform visual examinations for Herpes and Genital Warts (HPV).
Appointments and Fees
The clinic operates on a hybrid schedule with specific walk-in hours for limited testing (HIV/Hep C/Syphilis) and appointment-only slots for full-panel screenings. Patients are advised to call ahead to confirm eligibility and scheduling. While the clinic does not accept private insurance or MaineCare directly, staff can assist patients in filing claims for reimbursement. An initial clinic fee applies, though the division aims to keep services affordable.
