Cumberland County Jail
The Cumberland County Jail is a maximum-security detention facility located in Portland, Maine. Managed by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the facility serves as the primary intake and housing center for individuals arrested or sentenced within the county. The jail is part of a larger legal campus that includes the Sheriff’s administration building and is situated just off Congress Street. It provides essential public safety services, including inmate booking, bail processing, and secure confinement.
Visitation and Inmate Services
- Visitation: In-person and video visitation options are available. All visitors must be pre-approved, present valid government identification, and strictly adhere to the facility’s dress code.
- Inmate Funds: Friends and family can deposit money into inmate commissary accounts via an online portal, lobby kiosks, or by phone. Funds are used for purchasing hygiene items, snacks, and making phone calls.
- Bail: Bail can be posted 24 hours a day. Bail commissioners set conditions for release, and payments are processed through the Intake Department.
Security and Regulations
Security is the top priority at the facility. Strict rules prohibit cell phones, cameras, and outside food in the visitation area. Visitors are subject to security screening, including metal detectors. The jail also provides medical and mental health services to the inmate population through contracted healthcare providers.
