About Civil Air Patrol – Jersey City Composite Squadron
The Jersey City Composite Squadron (NER-NJ-112) is a local unit of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force. Located at 525 Montgomery Street (County Prep High School), this federally chartered non-profit organization is dedicated to serving the community through emergency services, aerospace education, and cadet programs. As a Total Force partner, the squadron consists of dedicated volunteers who perform essential non-combat missions for the federal government.
Cadet Programs
The squadron offers a comprehensive youth development program for individuals ages 12 to 21. The Cadet Program creates future leaders through a curriculum focused on leadership, character development, physical fitness, and aerospace education.
- Leadership Training: Cadets progress through a structured ranking system, gaining responsibility and management skills.
- Aerospace Education: Hands-on learning about aviation, space exploration, and STEM careers.
- Scholarships: Opportunities for academic and flight scholarships are available to dedicated cadets.
Emergency Services
Adult members and qualified cadets participate in critical emergency response missions. The Civil Air Patrol conducts the majority of inland search and rescue missions in the U.S. as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center.
- Search and Rescue: Ground and air teams trained to locate missing persons and aircraft.
- Disaster Relief: Providing aerial photography and support during natural disasters to assist government agencies in damage assessment.
- Humanitarian Support: Transporting medical supplies and personnel during public health emergencies.
Membership and Meetings
The squadron welcomes new members, both youth and adults, who are interested in aviation and community service. Meetings are held weekly to conduct training, drills, and educational activities.
