Liberty State Park Administration
The Administration Office at 200 Morris Pesin Drive serves as the operational headquarters for Liberty State Park, a massive 1,212-acre green oasis managed by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP). This office is the primary point of contact for visitors seeking permits, maps, and information regarding the park’s extensive recreational facilities, which offer unparalleled views of the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island.
Permitting and Services
Visitors must visit or contact this office to secure various mandatory permits for park usage:
- Group Picnics: Reservations are required for groups of 20 to 50 people using the open-air picnic areas. Alcohol is strictly prohibited in these areas.
- Boat Launch: Annual and daily permits for the trailer boat launch ramp (providing access to the Hudson River) can be purchased here.
- Special Use Permits: Large events, fundraisers, concerts, or organized athletic activities require a Special Use Permit, which must be coordinated through this office well in advance.
Park Rules and Accessibility
The office provides vital information on park regulations, including the prohibition of swimming and the requirement that pets be leashed at all times. It also handles inquiries regarding the Richard J. Sullivan Natural Area and the historic Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal. Staff can assist visitors with disability access needs to ensure the park’s amenities are inclusive for all.
