Overview
Albany County Board of Elections
Voter Services and Election Administration
The Albany County Board of Elections, located in the South End at 260 South Pearl Street (formerly the DMV building), is the bipartisan agency responsible for conducting all federal, state, county, and local elections within the county. Managed by two commissioners representing the major political parties, the Board ensures the integrity of the electoral process. They maintain the database of registered voters, process absentee and early mail ballot applications, and oversee the operation of polling sites.
- Voter Registration: The office processes new voter registrations, party enrollment changes, and address updates. Residents can visit to check their status or obtain registration forms.
- Absentee Voting: The Board handles the distribution and canvassing of absentee and early mail ballots for those unable to vote in person on Election Day.
- Candidates and Petitions: Prospective candidates file designating petitions and campaign finance disclosures here to appear on the ballot.
- Poll Workers: The agency recruits and trains thousands of election inspectors (poll workers) to staff voting machines and assist voters across the county.
Office Access
The facility features improved accessibility and parking compared to its previous location. It is open to the public on weekdays for registration and inquiries. During election seasons, the office often has extended hours for absentee ballot drop-offs. Valid identification is required for entry into county facilities.
