Overview
NYS Governor’s Press Office
The New York State Governor’s Press Office, led by the Press Secretary, is the primary communications arm of the Executive Chamber. Physically located within the New York State Capitol in Albany, New York, this office manages the flow of information between the Governor, the media, and the public. It plays a pivotal role in transparency and public messaging for the state government.
Functions and Responsibilities
- Media Relations: Handling inquiries from journalists, coordinating interviews, and organizing press conferences.
- Public Announcements: Drafting and distributing press releases regarding legislation, executive orders, and state emergencies.
- Digital Strategy: Managing the Governor’s official statements across various media platforms.
Access and Location
This office is strictly an administrative unit for state government communications and does not offer walk-in services to the general public. It typically operates out of the historic Red Room area or adjacent executive offices in the Capitol. Members of the press looking to attend briefings or obtain credentials must coordinate directly with the Press Secretary’s staff. General constituent inquiries should be directed to the Governor’s Constituent Services office rather than the Press Office.
