The officers here are dedicated to maintaining public safety in a diverse and densely populated urban environment.
Operational Focus
The 23rd Precinct utilizes a community policing model to address local challenges such as narcotics activity and property crime. Specialized units include:
- Neighborhood Coordination Officers (NCOs): Officers assigned to specific sectors who serve as liaisons between the police and the community.
- Domestic Violence Unit: Provides support and resources for victims of domestic abuse.
- Community Affairs: Engages with local clergy, business owners, and residents to foster trust.
The Precinct Community Council holds monthly meetings, typically on the fourth Wednesday at 6:00 PM, allowing residents to discuss crime trends directly with command staff.
Visiting the Precinct
The station house is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergency assistance and filing reports. As with all NYPD facilities, security is strict; visitors must pass through a checkpoint. The precinct is equipped to assist non-English speakers, reflecting the linguistic diversity of East Harlem. It is easily accessible via the Lexington Avenue subway line (6 train) stopping at 96th and 103rd Streets.
