Overview
Federal Bureau of Prisons: RRM Pittsburgh
Community Corrections Management
RRM Pittsburgh (Residential Reentry Management) is a field office of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), located within the William S. Moorhead Federal Building in downtown Pittsburgh. This office does not house inmates directly; rather, it serves as the administrative hub for overseeing federal offenders who have been placed in community-based programs. The staff here manage contracts with Residential Reentry Centers (RRCs, commonly known as halfway houses) and monitor individuals on Home Confinement throughout Western Pennsylvania and Northern West Virginia.
- RRC Oversight: Monitoring the operations and compliance of contracted halfway houses that assist offenders in transitioning back into society.
- Case Management: reviewing inmate progress, approving release plans, and coordinating with social services for employment and housing.
- Court Liaison: Acting as the primary point of contact for the U.S. District Courts and the U.S. Marshals Service regarding inmate designate and surrender issues.
- Home Confinement: Supervising eligible offenders who are serving the remainder of their sentences at home under strict curfew or electronic monitoring conditions.
Office Location and Protocols
As an administrative component of the Department of Justice, the RRM office maintains strict federal security protocols. It is not a visitation center for families; inquiries regarding specific inmates should typically be directed to the RRC where the inmate is residing. However, attorneys or officials may need to contact the office for case-specific coordination. Visitors to the building must pass through airport-style security, and valid government identification is required for entry. The office operates on standard federal business hours and is closed on all federal holidays.
