Overview
Alcohol Highway Safety Program (AHSP)
Allegheny County Pretrial Services
The Alcohol Highway Safety Program (AHSP) is a division of Allegheny County Pretrial Services located in the Manor Building on Forbes Avenue. This department is mandated by Pennsylvania law to administer services for individuals charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI). It serves as the central processing unit for evaluating offenders and coordinating state-required education and intervention programs.
- CRN Evaluations: Conducts the Court Reporting Network (CRN) evaluation, a mandatory assessment for all DUI offenders to determine the extent of alcohol or drug involvement.
- DUI School: Administers the Alcohol Highway Safety School, a state-mandated educational curriculum regarding the effects of alcohol and controlled substances on driving.
- Ignition Interlock: Oversees the installation and monitoring of ignition interlock devices for repeat offenders or those with high BAC levels.
Compliance and Procedures
Participation in AHSP is typically a condition of bail or sentencing (such as the ARD program). Failure to complete the required evaluations and classes can result in license suspension extensions or revocation of bail. The office operates strictly by appointment for evaluations. Visitors to the Manor Building must pass through security screening.
