Overview
Pittsburgh Community Corrections Center
The Pittsburgh Community Corrections Center (CCC), often referred to as Region 1 CCC, is a state-managed facility operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. Located in the Shadyside neighborhood, this facility serves as a critical bridge for individuals transitioning from state correctional institutions back into the community. The center focuses on the successful reintegration of re-entrants, providing structured supervision while allowing them to secure employment, pursue education, and reconnect with family under strict guidelines.
Re-entry and Rehabilitation Services
- Work Release Program: Residents are encouraged and often required to obtain gainful employment in the local community, returning to the facility immediately after their shifts.
- Counseling and Support: The facility connects residents with substance abuse treatment, mental health counseling, and life skills workshops to reduce recidivism.
- Monitoring and Accountability: Residents are subject to 24/7 monitoring, including sign-in/sign-out procedures, drug and alcohol testing, and curfew enforcement.
Facility Rules and Visitation
As a secure state facility, the Pittsburgh CCC maintains strict security protocols. Unauthorized access is prohibited. Visitors must be on an approved list and are subject to security screening upon entry. Personal items such as cell phones, cameras, and bags are typically restricted from the visitation area. The facility operates with a zero-tolerance policy for contraband. While the center operates 24 hours a day for residents, administrative business and inquiries are typically handled during standard business hours. The center plays a vital role in the Pennsylvania public safety system by ensuring offenders have a supervised, supportive environment before fully returning to independent living.
