Central Records and Reporting Unit
Criminal Records and Background Checks
The Police Bureau-Identification, also known as the Central Records and Reporting Unit (CRRU), is a specialized division of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. Located on the third floor of the Municipal Courts Building on First Avenue, this office is the primary repository for police records and identification data for the city. It serves both the law enforcement community and the general public by managing official police reports, criminal history information, and identification services.
- Police Reports: Citizens can obtain copies of accident and incident reports here. A valid ID and specific details about the incident (date, location, report number) are required.
- Fingerprinting: The unit provides fingerprinting services for employment, licensing, and other official purposes.
- Background Checks: Processing of criminal record checks for individuals requiring clearance for housing or employment within the city.
Municipal Courts Building
The office is situated within a high-security government facility that also houses the Pittsburgh Municipal Court. Due to the sensitive nature of the records and the location, strict access controls are in place. While the police stations are open 24/7, this administrative records office operates during standard business hours only. 👮♂️📂🏛️
