Overview
State Financial Oversight and Compliance
The Pennsylvania Bureau of Audits, operating under the Office of the Budget (Comptroller Operations), maintains a regional presence in the Parkway Center complex. This agency serves as the state’s internal auditor, distinct from the elected Auditor General. Its mission is to verify that state funds distributed to local governments, non-profits, and other entities are utilized strictly in accordance with state laws and regulations.
Audit Programs
The Pittsburgh regional office primarily handles field audits for Western Pennsylvania. Key areas of focus include:
- Liquid Fuels Tax Audits: Examining municipal accounts to ensure that state liquid fuels tax allocations are spent correctly on road maintenance and bridge repair.
- Grant Compliance: Auditing organizations that receive state grants to confirm that funds are applied to the approved projects.
- Internal Controls: Assessing the financial integrity of state agency field offices and operations in the region.
Facility Information
Located in Building 11 of the Parkway Center office park, this is primarily an administrative workspace for state auditors who travel to various municipalities and agencies. It is not a customer service center for general tax questions or personal inquiries. Visits are typically by appointment only for officials or entities undergoing an audit. The office ensures transparency and accountability in the use of Commonwealth taxpayer dollars.
