The Authentications and Apostilles Division of the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s office is the sole authority in Connecticut designated to issue apostilles and authenticate public officials’ signatures. The division processes documents to ensure they are recognized internationally under the Hague Convention (Apostille) or for non-member nations (Certification of Appointment). Common documents handled include:

Submission Guidelines
Applicants must present original documents or certified copies with an original signature from a recognized public official (such as a Town Clerk, Judge, or Notary Public). ⚠️ Important: Documents notarized by a Connecticut Notary Public must be authenticated by the Town Clerk where the notary is registered before being submitted to the State.
