Overview
Detention and Corrections
The Kennebec County Correctional Facility, located at 115 State Street, serves as the primary detention center for Kennebec County. This facility houses individuals awaiting trial, sentencing, or serving county-level sentences. The administration focuses on maintaining a safe environment while providing necessary services such as medical care, substance use recovery programs, and bail processing.
Visitation Rules
In-person visitation is conducted via non-contact booths and must be scheduled in advance. The facility also offers video visitation through Securus Technologies, allowing family and friends to communicate with inmates remotely. Visitors must adhere to strict guidelines:
- Identification: A valid government-issued photo ID is required for all adult visitors.
- Dress Code: Visitors must dress conservatively; revealing clothing, gang-related attire, or items with offensive language are prohibited.
- Minors: Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times.
Inmate Funds and Bail
Money can be deposited into an inmate’s account for commissary purchases through the lobby kiosk, by mailing a money order, or online via iCare Gift Services. For bail, the facility accepts cash (exact amount required) and services from authorized bail commissioners. A bail commissioner fee (typically $40) applies in addition to the bail amount.
Intake and Property
Upon intake, personal property is collected and stored. Inmates may bring necessary prescription medications in their original containers, subject to medical staff verification. Narcotics are strictly prohibited inside the facility.
