Overview
Annapolis City Dock
The Annapolis City Dock, widely known as ‘Ego Alley’, is the historic heart of Annapolis and a premier maritime destination managed by the City of Annapolis. Located at the foot of Main Street, this bustling waterfront area connects the historic downtown district with the Chesapeake Bay, serving as a central gathering place for residents, tourists, and boaters.
Marina and Boating Services
Managed by the Annapolis Harbormaster, the City Dock offers transient docking for vessels of all sizes. Boaters can reserve slips or moorings that provide immediate access to the city’s amenities. Services available at the dock include:
- Slip Rentals: Hourly and overnight docking options (reservations recommended via Dockwa).
- Utilities: Electric and water hookups are available at designated slips.
- Pump-Out Station: Located at the end of Ego Alley to ensure environmental compliance.
- Comfort Stations: Showers and restrooms are available for visiting boaters.
Public Spaces and Landmarks
The area encompasses Susan Campbell Park, a public plaza that hosts events, concerts, and the famous Annapolis Boat Shows. Key landmarks include the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Memorial, which commemorates the arrival of enslaved Africans to this port and celebrates the triumph of the human spirit. The dock is also the primary hub for Water Taxis and tour boats offering cruises of the harbor and the U.S. Naval Academy waterfront.
Visitor Information
The City Dock is open to the public year-round. Parking is available along Dock Street (metered) and in the nearby Hillman Garage. The Harbormaster’s office monitors VHF Channel 17 for boating communications. Visitors should be aware that the area is subject to flooding during high tides and severe weather events.
