The Bureau of State Office Buildings (BSOB) is a division of the Executive Office for Administration and Finance. Headquartered in the John W. McCormack Building at 1 Ashburton Place, the Bureau is responsible for the operations, maintenance, and security of the Massachusetts State House and several other key government buildings in the Government Center area. Their mission is to provide a safe, secure, and accessible environment for state employees and the public.
- Facility Management: Oversees the McCormack Building, the Lindemann Mental Health Center, and the Hurley Building.
- Security and Access: Manages the issuance of state employee ID cards and controls access to state office buildings.
- Event Coordination: Handles requests for the use of common areas within state buildings for public events or displays.
The McCormack Building
The Bureau’s main office is located on the 15th floor of the John W. McCormack Building. This skyscraper is a primary workspace for thousands of state employees and houses various state agencies. The building connects directly to the State House and other nearby facilities, forming a complex network of government operations.
Visitor Information
Visitors to the Bureau or any offices within the McCormack Building must undergo security screening at the lobby level. Valid photo identification is required to receive a visitor pass. The Bureau ensures that all managed buildings comply with accessibility standards, offering ramps and elevators for persons with disabilities.
