Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS)
The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS) is the cabinet-level secretariat responsible for the policy direction and administrative oversight of public safety agencies in Massachusetts. Headquartered at One Ashburton Place, EOPSS coordinates the state’s response to crime, natural disasters, and homeland security threats. The office oversees key agencies including the Massachusetts State Police, the Department of Correction, and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).
Mission and Oversight
- Law Enforcement: Provides budgetary and policy oversight for the State Police and the Municipal Police Training Committee.
- Correction & Parole: Supervises the Department of Correction and the Parole Board to ensure safe and effective offender management.
- Homeland Security: Manages state grant funds and coordinates with federal partners to protect the Commonwealth from terrorism and other threats.
- Forensic Services: Oversees the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the State Crime Laboratory.
Administrative Headquarters
This location serves as the administrative headquarters for the secretariat. It is not a police station or a direct service center for emergency response. The office focuses on high-level strategic planning, legislative affairs, and budget management. Visitors to the building are subject to security screening.
