Overview
Executive Office of Veterans’ Services (EOVS)
Serving Those Who Served
The Massachusetts Executive Office of Veterans’ Services (EOVS), located at 600 Washington Street in Boston, is the cabinet-level secretariat dedicated to supporting the state’s veteran community. Elevated from a department to an executive office in 2023, the EOVS ensures that Massachusetts veterans and their families receive the dignity, care, and benefits they have earned. The office oversees a statewide network of services, including the administration of the Chapter 115 benefits program, which provides financial aid to eligible low-income veterans and dependents. It also manages the state’s two Veterans’ Homes in Chelsea and Holyoke.
Benefits and Advocacy
The EOVS acts as the central point of advocacy for veterans within the state government. Key programs include the Annuity payment for 100% service-connected disabled veterans and Gold Star parents, as well as the Welcome Home Bonus for deploying service members. The office works closely with local Veterans’ Service Officers (VSOs) in every municipality to ensure benefits are delivered efficiently at the local level. Additionally, the EOVS oversees the state’s veteran cemeteries, ensuring respectful final resting places for those who served.
Housing and Support
Beyond financial benefits, the EOVS is deeply committed to ending veteran homelessness and improving access to behavioral health resources. The office coordinates with federal and non-profit partners to provide housing assistance and clinical support. While the Boston headquarters is primarily administrative, it is the heart of policy-making and program management that affects veterans across the Commonwealth. Visitors to the office can seek guidance on complex benefit eligibility issues or appeal decisions regarding state veteran benefits.
