Vital Records Services
The Registry Division, located on the second floor of Boston City Hall, is the primary repository for birth records in the city. This office is responsible for issuing certified copies of birth certificates for anyone born within the City of Boston or whose parents were residents of Boston at the time of birth. These certified copies are essential documents used for obtaining passports, enrolling in school, and proving identity for various legal purposes.
- Certified Copies: The division provides long-form birth certificates with the raised seal required by federal agencies.
- Amendments: Staff can assist with the process of correcting errors on birth records or adding a parent’s name through the amendment process.
- Accessibility: The Registry serves a diverse population and offers services in multiple languages to assist residents.
