Overview
NH Division of Veterans Services
The New Hampshire Division of Veterans Services maintains a key field office within the Norris Cotton Federal Building in Manchester. This state agency is distinct from the federal VA; its primary mission is to advocate for New Hampshire veterans and assist them in navigating the complex federal benefits system. The office is staffed by accredited Veterans Services Officers (VSOs) who act as liaisons between veterans and the US Department of Veterans Affairs.
- Claims Assistance: professionally assists veterans and their dependents in filing new claims for disability compensation, pension, and education benefits.
- Appeals Representation: Provides representation for veterans during the appeals process if their federal benefits claims are denied.
- State Benefits: Educates veterans on New Hampshire-specific benefits, such as property tax credits, free tuition for children of fallen soldiers, and state park admission.
- Referrals: Connects veterans with other essential services including healthcare, housing assistance, and employment support through NH Employment Security.
Appointments
Visits to this office are by appointment only. Veterans are strongly encouraged to call ahead to schedule a time with a VSO. As the office is located inside a federal building, visitors must pass through security screening similar to airport protocols, including metal detectors and ID checks.
